Feeling stuffed from Thanksgiving? Get moving and register for Boaz Parks & Recreation's first Skinny Turkey 5K and 10K Run. Make it a competition or take your time through the beautiful Boaz area in your craziest Thanksgiving attire. The route will follow through Snead State Community College, the Boaz Sportsplex, and Boaz Elementary School on all paved roads with some small hills. The 5K and 10K will begin and end at the Boaz Recreation Center with water stations and port-o-potties available along the route. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals will be given to each age group at the awards ceremony. There will be no refunds. The race will be held rain or shine. Packet pick up will be on Friday, November 23rd from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM and on Saturday, November 24th from 6:00 AM - 7:30 AM. The race is administered by the Boaz Parks and Recreation Department. The course is certified, numbers AL18035JE and AL18036JE.

The Boaz Parks and Recreation Department is honored to work in partnership with the Waldrop family and the Second Chance Shelter. Courtney and Eric Waldrop are the proud parents of 9 children with the youngest being sextuplets. They are active in the community and share their experience through local events. The Second Chance Shelter is a non-profit, no-kill dog shelter that saves and houses dogs until they can be adopted to their forever home. They believe every dog has a story and every story deserves a happy ending!
