[ARCHIVED] Recreation Center closed!

The Boaz Recreation Center will be closed from Dec. 19-31 for gym floor maintenance. It will reopen Monday, January 2.

It is necessary to do the work during this time period due to the time needed to perform the work as well as drying time for the material that will be applied. Because of constant leagues being played, there is not enough downtime at other times of the year.

We regret having to close for an extended period of time but it is something that must be done to protect the wood floor and for the safety of players using the floor. With so much action the gym floor finish wears off and it becomes slick and that poses a safety hazard for our participants. We have had roughly 400 league basketball and volleyball games played on the floor in 2016. Then you add practices and free play and that's a lot of activity on the floor.

The floor will be sanded and a fresh coat of floor finish will be applied and once that is complete and after the proper drying time it will look like new and will be safe for those playing on it.

During the time the gym is closed, the recreation center office will be open 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Dec. 19-23 and Dec. 27-30.
