Runnin' For Rescues 5K/10K
2023 Runnin' For Rescues
Another year in the books! The Fifth Annual Skinny Turkey 5K/10K was held on November 19, 2022 with all proceeds donated to Second Chance Shelter. We are excited to announce a name change for year 6 of the run that better reflects our mission and our work with Second Chance Shelter. The run will now be known as Runnin' For Rescues 5K/10K. The Boaz Parks and Recreation Department wants to thank everyone who has participated in this event as a sponsor, volunteer, or runner/walker for the last 5 years. None of this could have happened without the support of the community! We look forward to your continued support this year and in the years to come. The Annual Runnin' For Rescues 5K/10K will take place Saturday, November 18, 2023! Our Diamond Sponsor, Peoples Independent Bank, presents this event. Help us make this year bigger than ever to celebrate Runnin' For Rescues!
As always, this event is all about Second Chance Shelter. They are a non-profit, no-kill dog shelter and so much more! They have amazing sponsor and foster programs for those who are not interested in adoption. Doug and Wanda McGee started Second Chance Shelter in 2008 and they have grown to house and care for over 250 dogs at a time. Their passion for animals is not only obvious but infectious.
Come join us for the Annual Runnin' For Rescues 5K/10K Race and run through the beautiful Boaz area. The route will follow through Snead State Community College, the Boaz SportsPlex, and Boaz Elementary School on all paved roads with some small hills. The 5K and 10K will begin and end at the Boaz Neighborhood Center (314 N King St.) with water stations along the route. Finisher medals will be given at the finish line and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each age group (male and female) will receive prizes at the awards ceremony. Please register by October 22nd in order to be guaranteed a shirt. There will be no refunds, the run will be held rain or shine!

2021 Skinny Turkey
Despite the unusual year we had in 2020, the Third Annual Skinny Turkey 5K/10K Race was a huge success! We were able to donate $9,500 to Second Chance Shelter, increasing the amount from 2019. Doug and Wanda from Second Chance were blown away by the donation. This year, we are excited to announce the Fourth Annual Skinny Turkey 5K/10K Race will take place Saturday, November 20, 2021! This event will benefit Second Chance Shelter. Our Diamond Sponsor, Peoples Independent Bank, presents this event.
What do you know about Second Chance Shelter? They are a non-profit, no-kill dog shelter, right? Essentially, that does describe this organization but they are that and so much more! They have amazing sponsor and foster programs for those who are not interested in adoption. Doug and Wanda McGee started Second Chance Shelter in 2008 and they have grown to house and care for over 250 dogs at a time. Their passion for animals is not only obvious but also infectious.
