Relay for Life in the City of Boaz, AL.
Mayor Walker and Council presents proclamation to Renae Mosley

WHEREAS, The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life is an overnight community celebration of life dedicated
to present and former cancer patients, their families and friends.  Relay For Life raises funds for the American
Cancer Society while declaring that cancer can and will be beaten; and

WHEREAS, Boaz City Schools and the City of Boaz are supporting the American Cancer Society Relay for Life by
asking everyone to make a donation to have a large purple bow placed on your mailbox or on the door at your place
of business.  These bows that will “paint” our city will serve several purposes:  we raise awareness of the fight against
cancer, we raise funds for the American Cancer Society to continue to do research, services, education and advocacy
in the mission to eliminate cancer as a health risk and we come together to serve our community by supporting this
worthy cause; and

WHEREAS, the event kicks off this year at 6 p.m. on Friday night, April 17th with the Opening Ceremony and then
the Cancer Survivor Victory Lap. Relay has a carnival type atmosphere with games, food and entertainment through
the night.  After dark, a Luminary Ceremony is held.  The luminaries are placed around the track in honor and memory
of someone.  You may purchase a luminary for $5.00---but you need to do this before the Relay.  Everyone in our
community is invited to come participate in the fun and fellowship.  You can find out more information by contacting
