• If you want to report any crime, and if you live within the city limit of the city of Boaz or police jurisdiction, call (256) 593 6812 or emergency dial 911.

• Domestic violence abuse is strictly enforced; if you are a victim of sexual abuse, child abuse, or domestic violence please report it immediately to the authorities.

• If you got a citation, you should go to court on the specified date on the ticket, or you should pay the specified amount by the magistrate. If you don’t pay or go to court, the court will issue a warrant for your arrest and forfeit bail according to law. If you have an Alabama driver’s license or from another state, your license will be suspended until you contact the Department of Public Safety of Alabama or the state that issued your license.

• If you don’t have a driver’s license you cannot drive a motor vehicle, the international license is not valid if you are a resident of this state already. It’s only valid if you are on a visit trip on the US, and you have your driver’s license from your country and your passport. Contact the consulate from your country to obtain more information about the international driver’s license.

• To obtain an Alabama driver’s license you should study the driver’s manual and take a test required by the state in the county where you live. The state requires that you should bring you social security card, and your residency card (green card) or birth certificate. You should be a legal resident or a US citizen in order to obtain a driver’s license on the state of Alabama.

• You should know that in the city of Boaz you can’t possess alcoholic beverages inside a vehicle near the passenger area. (Neither front or back seat) Even if the alcoholic beverages are sealed it’s against the law of the state of Alabama 28-4-200 in Dry Counties. You can transport the alcoholic beverages in the trunk of a vehicle or in the rear of a pick up truck.

• The law of the state of Alabama requires that you need to have vehicle liability insurance and the proof in the vehicle at all times. You should obtain the liability insurance the first day that you buy the vehicle. There’s no grace period for the insurance. For the tag the state of Alabama gives you a grace period of twenty days to get a registration for the vehicle in the county where you live.

• The law requires that the occupants of the front seat (driver & passenger) of a vehicle have their seat belt on at all times. The children that are less than five years of age and weight less than fifty-one pounds need to ride in the back seat with a child restraint/child seat. The children need to be older than twelve for them to ride in the front passenger seat and with the seat belt on.

• If a relative or a friend has been arrested, you need to call the police department and ask the charges against the person incarcerated. Some charges just require for a bond to be posted thru a bonding company and the bonding company will charge a certain percentage of the total amount, less than the amount posted by the court. In some cases like on an arrest warrant, the fine posted by the judge is what the person needs to pay, may be only cash. That’s why is important to contact the police department and get information before you try to get somebody out of jail.

• It is important to have a legal identification with you at all times, preferably from your country of origin. You can obtain an identification card from the consulate of your country; it also shows your nationality as well so you don’t have problems with the law. The ID card should have you personal information like your full name, date of birth, and address.

• You need to be very careful with your property such as your vehicles and your residence. Make sure that you lock all the doors and windows locked. Don’t leave any valuables in your vehicle like wallets, purses, jewelry, or money. It’s better that you keep your valuables with you at all times.
