City Clerk Duties
This position consists of highly responsible financial management activities including supervisory responsibilities for accounting and clerical procedures. Work involves directing and coordinating all financial activities of the City with the exception of purchasing. Responsibilities include administration of general and special funds, payroll, budgeting, supervise management of accounts payable, maintain and control miscellaneous receipts, internal auditing and accounting. The City Clerk must attend and maintain official records of City Council Meetings to include writing of resolutions, ordinances, minutes, and sundry financial records and reports; answering financial questions posed by the Council and conducting research when necessary.

Business licenses are issued in the City Clerk's Office. A building must be inspected by the Building Inspector and Fire Marshall before a business license will be issued. Business licenses are issued for a calendar year period and are renewable each year on January 1. Please see the business license section of this web site for detailed instructions.
- Sales Tax

The City of Boaz contracted with Revenue Discovery Systems (RDS) to collect sales tax. Effective September 1, 2011, all RDS Alabama sales, use, rental and lodging tax remittances that are submitted via online filing should be filed at www.salestaxonline.com.

As of May 1, 2011, the sales tax in the City of Boaz is 8%. The break down is 4% State and 4% City. As of June 1, 2004, those doing business in the City of Boaz are no longer required to send 1% to Marshall County.
